Bold, generously fruity, yet soft on the palate, this plush blend marries Syrah from longtime Napa Valley growers, the Viscusi Vineyard, with Cabernet from our estate. The large, alluvial fan that dominates Oak Knoll provides an ideal home for rustic, full-bodied Syrah to reveal its rich, black fruit. The Cabernet from our estate has a history of producing concentrated flavors and supple tannins that bring finesse to the blend.
WINEMAKER NOTES: After harvesting and sorting the grapes by hand, our winemaker allowed four days cold soak, to keep the tannins soft while maximizing flavor extraction. Following a warm fermentation, the new wine was gently pressed into barrels for malolactic fermentation, seamlessly integrating the fruit and oak flavors. After 19 months in 50% new French oak the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
2007 VINTAGE: A textbook growing season of warm days and cool nights - only time will tell if it surpasses the renowned 1997 vintage.
TASTING NOTES : The fruit-forward scent of blueberry, violet, sweet boysenberry and vanilla are complemented by a subtle nuance of toffee. Big and bright on the palate with dusty red cherry, black plum, anise and cocoa, this full, lush blend has a long, graceful finish.
