The 2010 Silenus Napa Valley Merlot is grown and matured next to the estate vineyards surrounding the winery. The Merlot contains a small dose of our estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot to add verve and depth. The wine was aged for 22 months in oak barrels. 50% of the oak was new fine grain French oak. This is an age-worthy Merlot.
Blend:
85% Merlot
13% Cabernet Sauvignon
2% Petite Verdot
Tasting Notes:
There are aromas of wild berries, anise, cedar and vanilla. The palate opens with berries, plum and toasted oak woven into vivid red fruit flavors. The wine has some spiciness in the middle, which lifts up and accents the fruit flavors. Dense, round fruitiness carries on in the finish with hints of roasted nuts and cocoa lingering.
